Mechanization in forestry deals with the use of machinery and equipment in harvesting, transport, road construction, afforestation, and fire management. Research compares machines in terms of productivity, operating costs, and environmental impact. Mechanization reduces the risks of manual labour, but high investment costs and the limits of machine use on steep terrain make equipment selection a research problem in its own right.
